Background: BS in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from UC Davis
Engineering originally appealed to me because I was good at math and science. It was a struggle going through school and when I entered the workforce, I wasn’t so sure it was the right thing. I ended up designing and servicing mechanical building systems for 10 years. It was rewarding on a variety of levels, however, it was very calculation heavy. With the help of a wise mentor, I stepped out of engineering and now spend my time developing business on the west coast for a company in the east. It is giving me a whole new set of skills to learn.
When I joined EWB, it was initially to travel to another country and be able to help a community in need of technical guidance. To date, I have not had an opportunity to travel, mostly due to trip timing. I have derived a lot of satisfaction in building and maintaining a great leadership team here in San Francisco that serves our global communities. I started on the Kenya team doing fundraising then moved to help with SFari, our annual fundraiser. From there, I started working with the executive council in marketing and eventually stepped in to serve as president. It has been one great experience after another.
